Key Result Areas (KRA)

1.     What is role based training?

As per the job family framework in Tech Mahindra, there are specific roles identified for any kind of work profile. To perform that role an employee needs to possess certain competencies. These competencies can be achieved by attending specific trainings that are designed to cater to that competency. These trainings are termed as Role based trainings.

2.     How are trainings mapped to my role?

A role is mapped to three types of competencies technical, behavioral and professional. These competencies are further mapped to certain trainings and examinations. Thus selecting a role for your, automatically yields the training list. This mapping can be seen for all roles in the organization through My Learning >> Role / Competencies and Associated Trainings >> Role Competency mapping.

3.     What if I am working on multiple projects and my training needs are diverse?

In your training plan, you will be mapped to only one project, i.e. the primary project as per PS data. Your project influences the technical trainings prescribed for you. Other trainings required for behavioral / professional competencies as well as trainings identified in appraisal will be seen by you irrespective of your project.

4.     Does the system recognize my relevant trainings or it is purely my manager who does it?

Your line manager maps a role and a job function (area in which the role is being performed) for you. In addition, depending on your project's technology / domain, your line manager maps technical competencies relevant to your work. Once this mapping is done, the system allocates you trainings and exams associated with these role-competencies.

5.     What do I do if I want to attend a training which doesn't form a part of my relevant trainings? Can I attend it and will I still get a credit?

Upon your manager’s approval you can attend such trainings and the systems will not stop you from doing so. However, you will not get any credit for a training that is not listed in your relevant trainings list.

6.     Will the role based trainings be a combination of behavioral and technical ones?

Yes, trainings required for technical, behavioral and professional competencies are shown together as relevant.  You can view the list of all applicable trainings irrespective of whether it is technical / behavioral etc.

7.     I see a long list in “relevant learning avenues” section. Am I required to take ALL these trainings for my KRA? Who decides which trainings from this list should I take?

The list is a superset of trainings / exams prescribed for the roles that you have been performing throughout this year. This includes trainings identified in appraisal, exams for TechM / IBU mandates and role based trainings. If you take any training from this list, you will get KRA credit. However, if the list is long, you can discuss with your line manager which ones you can take on priority. There is a provision for line manager to select priority trainings on the screen. Even if you complete trainings that are NOT selected as priority, as long as they are from the list, they will be considered in KRA.

8.     What do I do with the appraisal trainings identified for me? Am I also supposed to complete these along with the role based ones?

As the appraisal trainings are identified by the line manager, it is desired that you complete all the trainings. However it is not a mandate to complete all trainings identified in appraisal. There is a provision for line manager to select priority trainings on the screen. Even if you complete trainings that are NOT selected as priority, as long as they are from the list, they will be considered in KRA.

9.     What about the mandatory organizational trainings that I need to undergo?

You have to complete the mandatory trainings / exams within the stipulated time.

10.  I have already taken the latest Oracle / Java training a few months back. Do I need to take it again?

If you have already attended a training that is shown in your relevant list, you need not attend it again. If it is taken in the current financial year, it will be counted in KRA.

11.  I am from the support team. What will my trainings comprise of?

Your trainings will be more of Behavioral and professional type. Actual trainings will be fetched from your role that your line manager maps in the system.

12.  Is it compulsory to undergo training or on the job coaching / mentoring can also be done?

On job coaching or mentoring will not be considered for KRA.

13.  Is there any procedure to waive off training from the relevant list?

The system shows a list of relevant trainings; which ones out of this should be taken is at discretion of the employee and his/her line manager. Hence waiving off a training entry from the relevant list will add no value; such a provision is not there in the system.

14.  The training that is critical for my project is not seen relevant for me in the system.

Some projects will work on niche technology / domain / products that may not be used by many others in the organization. Competencies for such skills may not be present in the master data. However, if a project needs specific training, project manager's raise a project specific training request to training department. On completing such trainings, employees will be given credit for their KRA.

15.  What technologies / domains have been entered for my project in the system?

Project Managers have entered this data for their respective projects in the system. These are seen under the link My Learnings >> Project's Domain & Technology.

16.  What if the role of employee changes mid-year?

As and when the employee's role changes, the line manager is expected to reflect this change in the iLearn. Trainings mapped to the previous role will still be shown as relevant throughout this year.

17.  What if the employee changes IBU or project mid-year?

IBU changes are picked up automatically by the system. Mandatory exams if no more relevant in the new IBU will be waived off. If any additional mandates are set in the new IBU, these will be attached to the employee. The role and competencies of the employees will remain the same in the system. If the role / competencies need a change, the new line manager should do these changes in the system. Throughout the current financial year, even though the employee's role / IBU / competencies undergo a change, from the KRA perspective, all trainings in current and previous role / IBUs will be considered as relevant.

18.  I have some contractors working with me. They do not have any learning KRA. Do I have to assign a role for them?

Contractors do not have Training KRA. However, since they are performing roles, it will be good for them to view what competencies they require to possess and what trainings are available to them. From Training KRA perspective, mapping need not be done for contractors but from a role based learning need perspective, the mapping can help.

19.  I have availed maternity leave / Long leave during the year. Will I get waiver on training KRA?

For employees on Maternity / Long leave, some consideration will be given in calculation of training KRA.  Data from PS will be used for this and the calculations will be reflected in ide@s at time of annual appraisal.

20.  I am onsite. Is the training KRA applicable to me?

Training KRA is applicable for all employees onsite as well as offshore.
